Polina Evangelou & Nikos Georgiou:

Tank Top

18 September

Τank top is a performance piece based on texts written by its two performers touching on notions of birth, construction and deconstruction. Visually, the audience watches the two performers dressing, undressing, dancing, screaming to and fighting each other on stage. A chaotic cluster of information extends metaphorically from within them towards every direction, hitting various emotional targets and tracing unconscious routes. The work’s narrative seems to be cut halfway, in an attempt to stage the idea of sloppiness as an intrinsically Greek characteristic of leaving each task, procedure or thought process incomplete while moving on to the next one over and over.

Polina Evangelou was born in Athens in 1996. She graduated with a distinction from the Greek National School of Dance (2017). She got a scholarship at Martha Graham's Winter Intensive in Martha Graham dance company in New York City and attended the summer intensive of Los Angeles Dance Company. She participated in 3 short films, performed and choreographed in In Progress Feedback Festival 2018. She has attended workshops with Marilena Dara (Jasmin Vardimon repertoire), Linda Kapetanea, Paul Blackma, Christine Gouzelis, Konstantina Efthimiadou, Konstantinos Michos, Maria Doulgeri, Diego de la Rosa, Carlos Aller, Juan Tirado, Marco Di Nardo.

Nikos Georgiou was born and raised in the west side of Athens watching digimon and camp Greek sitcom characters. In 2009, he graduated from the Athens art high school (theater pathway) and then studied acting at the Empros Theater drama school. From 2010 till now he has worked onstage and backstage in films and theaters in athens. In 2018, he curated alongside Foivos Dousos the event "Queer Ink presents: queer words" in the context of UNESCO’s ‘Athens 2018, World Book Capital’. He is also team member of the Athens performance art nights “Glam Slam”.
