Julius Evola in Athens
17 September
On the 17th of September (a date which harbours great numerological significance) the acclaimed & controversial philosopher, Julius Evola will deliver a lecture prepared especially for the Garden of Dystopian Pleasures
Mr Evola's work has recently become strangely prominent among certain political circles in America and elsewhere. In his Athens lecture he wishes to meditate on this odd revival, discuss his own formation, correct a few unfortunate misinterpretations of his thought, and finally, reflect more generally on contemporary events and themes, specifically, with reference to the idea of "Pagan Imperialism", the subject of his first book.
Baron Giulio Cesare Andrea Evola, better known as Julius Evola, is an Italian philosopher, painter, and esotericist. He has been described as a "fascist intellectual,” a "radical traditionalist," "antiegalitarian, antiliberal, antidemocratic, and antipopular”.
Evola terms his philosophy "magical idealism." Many of Evola's theories and writings are centered on his idiosyncratic mysticism, occultism, and esoteric religious studies, and this aspect of his work has influenced occultists and esotericists. Evola was the "chief ideologue" of Italy's radical right after World War II. He continues to influence contemporary traditionalist and neo-fascist movements such as the alt-right.
